Investigation of many-body effects in dilute gases using phase-modulated coherent spectroscopy
Many-body quantum states are considered to play a crucial role in atomic and molecular systems with respect to excitation, dissipation, and energy transfer. We investigate collective effects in atomic vapors by multiple-quantum coherence experiments. The technique allows to separate collective processes from one-photon transitions, and weak interparticle interactions can be probed with high sensitivity, even in thermal ensembles and at low densities. We aim at a better understanding of the interparticle interactions and implement an optical setup that allows the use of multi-dimensional detection schemes.
